I started photography in the early 1990s with film but put it down a few years later to pursue a career in marketing and other interests. With the advent of digital cameras, I picked up photography again in the mid 2000s. My initial focus was on mammals and birds.
In 2010, I began photographing the annual benefit for the Children’s Law Center of Minnesota. They are a great organization that provides pro bono legal assistance for foster children. Every year they have silent and live auctions along with an awards presentation. Since my success at that first event, I’ve photographed wine tastings, volunteer appreciation dinners, healthcare workshops, fund raisers and other events.
In 2013, I got the opportunity to photograph a Red Bull Crashed Ice event in St. Paul, Minnesota. Ice Cross Downhill is a fast event with ever changing lighting conditions in all kinds of cold weather. My experience with wildlife photography really gave me a leg up for my first big sporting event. Soon after, I was hired to photograph my first Triathlon. Since then, I’ve photographed 6 Ice Cross Downhill events and about a dozen Triathlons and other miscellaneous sporting events from youth soccer and basketball to pond hockey, mud runs, and fat tire bike races on frozen lakes . My background in marketing informs my ability to find images that convey the fun and excitement of your events.
